Summertime is a wonderful time. Warm weather means pool parties, beach trips, and plenty of fun to go around. Unfortunately, warm weather and longer sunny days also come with higher energy usage and (sometimes insanely) high electric bills. If you are looking for solutions beyond adjusting your air conditioner settings, take a look at these ideas.

Air conditioner is working but not cooling you off?

While it is possible to have summer with no AC and have low electric bills, it’s not very ideal. Especially here in the South where temperatures reach 90 degrees (F) or higher. We all want to keep our homes comfortable during the summer, but no one wants to spend more and more on electricity. Because of this, we have to find ways to cut back on energy consumption without sacrificing comfort.

This is more possible than you think. If you follow these energy saving tricks you can easily lower your electric bill. Many will be surprised by how much they can lower it by.

There are many different ways to save small amounts of electricity every day. To make it simple we’ll just focus on a few of those tricks. All of the tips we’re going over revolve around the fact that adding heat to your home will raise your electric bill, they all take advantage of the very thing we’re trying to combat: the warm summer weather. If you can’t beat ‘em, why not join ‘em?

Let’s go out, keep costs down, and stay cool with these energy saving tips.

1. Grill Out

It’s simple, the oven and stove heat up your home. As soon as the temperature goes up, your AC turns on and continues to run until it catches up with all the extra heat your appliances are putting out. Running the AC uses way more energy than your stove, so this is one quick way to increase your electric bill.

Instead of heating your home indoors, why not take them outside and enjoy dinner on the grill instead. Spending the evening outdoors, enjoying the summer weather, it’s all great for your spirits as well. Everyone loves a good grilled steak, burger, veggie skewer, or chicken breast.

If the grill doesn’t work for you, try using the slow cooker instead. Slow cookers only require a relatively small amount of heat. Anyone with an outdoor outlet can also plug this handy device outside to use keep all the heat outside.

2.Go Natural

Another heat-producing (and energy-consuming) appliance you may want to consider putting away for the summer is your hair dryer. The warm summer weather means allowing your hair to dry naturally is a quick process, and on days spent relaxing in the water it’s pretty silly to blow your hair dry anyway.

As an added bonus, by reducing your hair dryer usage, you may see an improvement in your overall hair health.

3. Hang Out

While we’re on the topic of heat-producing appliances, we should also talk about clothes dyers. Your dryer is one of the largest heat produced in your home. How can you dry clothes while also not using your dryer? Use a clothesline of course!

Hanging your clothes out to dry not only reduces the amount of heat in your home, but also allows you to take full advantage of the hot weather. You’ll be surprised with how quickly your clothes will dry outside, and they’ll also keep a fresh scent after being dried in the sun.

As mentioned before, these are just a few of the many ways to save energy during the hot summer months. Check back often for even more great tips and tricks!
