What the job involves
A whole-home humidifier mounts on the supply or return plenum near the furnace, which in a lot of older houses means working in a basement with tight clearances. We cut and seal the opening, run a small water line with a shutoff, set the drain if the model needs one, and wire the humidistat control so it only runs when the heat calls. Then we test it through a full cycle and set a starting humidity level for your house. Most installs are done in a single visit.
What we check and install
Before we quote anything we check furnace type and blower capacity, duct size, static pressure, water access near the unit and how leaky the house is. A century-old place with original windows holds humidity very differently than a 1970s subdivision ranch. From there we install bypass, fan-powered or steam style units depending on what the ductwork and the water supply will support. We also service what you already have: pad and canister replacement, clogged drains, stuck solenoid valves and humidistats that quit reading correctly.
How we decide it is the right call
Humidity numbers decide it, not guesswork. We measure indoor relative humidity in a few rooms during heating season. If you are sitting in the twenties and seeing static, gaps in hardwood floors and dry sinuses, a whole-home unit is worth it. If the readings are fine and you still feel dry, the real problem may be duct leakage, an oversized furnace short cycling, or air moving through the wrong rooms. We will say so instead of selling equipment you do not need.

Will a whole-home humidifier cause mold or window condensation?
Not if the level is set correctly. We usually target the mid thirties to mid forties percent in winter and lower it during hard freezes. Sweating windows are a signal the setting is too high, and we will adjust it.
How much maintenance does it need?
Plan on one visit a year. The water panel or canister gets replaced, the drain and screen get flushed, and we confirm the valve and control still operate. Hard water in the region shortens pad life, so some homes need a mid-season swap.
Can it be added to an existing furnace?
Usually yes. Most furnaces and air handlers have room on the plenum for a humidifier, provided there is a water line within reach and the ductwork can handle it. We confirm all of that during the visit before any work starts.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and what the thermostat reads. That short conversation tells us whether you need a visit today or tomorrow morning.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and ducts, and the equipment itself. We find the actual cause instead of swapping parts and hoping the noise goes away.
- Step 3
You decide before we work
We explain what failed, what the repair involves, and what we would do if it were our own house. Nothing gets replaced until you say go. Then we test the system before leaving.

Why homeowners call us
- Old houses and new onesWe are used to century-old homes with retrofitted ductwork and 1970s subdivisions with original returns. Tight crawl spaces, low basement headroom and odd attic runs are normal parts of the day for us, not surprises that stall the job.
- Built for the swingsHumid summers push AC systems hard and January freezes expose weak igniters and cracked flues. We repair for both extremes across the region, so the fix holds when the weather turns instead of failing the first hard week.
- Air conditioning and heating bothAir conditioner repair in July, heating repair in January, and the IAQ and airflow problems that hide in between. One crew that knows how your cooling and heating share the same blower and the same duct system.
- Plain talk, no pressureWe tell you when a repair makes sense and when replacement is the honest answer. No scare tactics about your BTU load, no upsell scripts. You get the condition of the system and a clear next step.
- All major brands, gas & electricEvery major HVAC brand, gas and electric, handled by an independent crew.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
