The independent heating and cooling company across Kentucky and the Ohio Valley

Smart Thermostat Installation

We install smart thermostats in homes across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia, and we wire them so they actually control the equipment you own. Homeowners call us when the new thermostat needs a common wire the old one never had, when heat pump staging gets confused, or when the app installs fine but the furnace short cycles. Tell us the brand you bought, or let us recommend one, and we will match it to your system before we set a visit.

What the job involves

We start at the equipment, not the wall. Your old thermostat is checked for wire count and labels, then we confirm what the furnace, air handler or heat pump board actually expects: single stage, two stage, or auxiliary heat. If a common wire is missing we run one or add an adapter at the board. Then we mount the new thermostat level, connect it, set the equipment type in the menu, and cycle heating and cooling while watching how the system responds.

What we check and set up

We verify the changeover for heat pumps so backup heat is not firing on a mild day, set fan and cycle behavior to suit ductwork rather than factory defaults, and check that the temperature reading matches a probe in the same room. We get it on your WiFi, walk you through schedules and remote access, and label the wiring for whoever comes next. If we find scorched wire, a cracked board or a shorted transformer, we tell you before going further.

How we decide it is the right call

A smart thermostat helps when your schedule varies, when one floor runs warmer than the rest, or when you want to watch runtime and catch a problem early. It will not fix a leaking duct, an undersized return or a failing compressor, and we say so rather than sell a control. On older wall units with two wires and a gravity furnace we sometimes recommend a simpler programmable model. We look at the system first, then choose.

Smart Thermostat Installation — quick answers

Can I use a smart thermostat with a two wire system?

Sometimes. Many models need a common wire for constant power. We check the run between the thermostat and the equipment, then either pull a new conductor or install an adapter at the control board, depending on what the wall allows.

Will it work with my heat pump?

Most will, but the setup matters. Heat pumps need correct changeover and auxiliary heat settings, or the strips run when they should not. We configure staging and lockouts, then test both heating and cooling before leaving.

Can you install a thermostat I already bought?

Yes. Bring us the model and we will confirm it matches your equipment. If it does not support your staging or your heat pump, we will tell you what will and why before anything comes off the wall.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and what the thermostat reads. That short conversation tells us whether you need a visit today or tomorrow morning.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and ducts, and the equipment itself. We find the actual cause instead of swapping parts and hoping the noise goes away.

  3. Step 3

    You decide before we work

We explain what failed, what the repair involves, and what we would do if it were our own house. Nothing gets replaced until you say go. Then we test the system before leaving.

Why homeowners call us

  • Old houses and new onesWe are used to century-old homes with retrofitted ductwork and 1970s subdivisions with original returns. Tight crawl spaces, low basement headroom and odd attic runs are normal parts of the day for us, not surprises that stall the job.
  • Built for the swingsHumid summers push AC systems hard and January freezes expose weak igniters and cracked flues. We repair for both extremes across the region, so the fix holds when the weather turns instead of failing the first hard week.
  • Air conditioning and heating bothAir conditioner repair in July, heating repair in January, and the IAQ and airflow problems that hide in between. One crew that knows how your cooling and heating share the same blower and the same duct system.
  • Plain talk, no pressureWe tell you when a repair makes sense and when replacement is the honest answer. No scare tactics about your BTU load, no upsell scripts. You get the condition of the system and a clear next step.
  • All major brands, gas & electricEvery major HVAC brand, gas and electric, handled by an independent crew.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
